Mission Statement

Post Rehab/Medical Exercise (“PRiME”) programming provides physical fitness services for clients with acute or chronic medical conditions, and for those who have finished, or in conjunction with, a recommended course of treatment after surgery or other medical treatments.

The ultimate goal of Post Rehab/Medical Exercise is to bridge the gap between health care and fitness; to allow clients in the post-rehab stages of their recovery to achieve physical fitness and continued recovery through carefully developed, customized personal training.

Programs

Post Rehab/Medical Exercise programs are offered to meet the needs of clients who do not feel comfortable or knowledgeable enough to exercise on their own given their medical condition and/or history.  Post Rehab/Medical Exercise programs provide each client with the opportunity to maintain and to build upon their successful recovery from acute or chronic conditions.

How does the PRME Program work?

The Post Rehab/Medical Exercise certified personal trainer designs secure and effective post-rehab training programs to work with various physical limitations as well as for those clients recovering from a variety of injuries.  Your specialist will work with you to develop a comprehensive, customized training program that works with your unique physical limitations, builds upon the successes of your standard medical rehabilitative work, and that enables you to achieve your physical fitness goals in a safe and effective manner.

As part of any Post Rehab/Medical Exercise program, your personal trainer will have direct contact with your doctor(s) including obtaining all necessary medical clearances, coordinating your program with your doctor’s medical diagnoses and recommendations, and maintaining regular contact (including providing regular reports on your progress), with your health care professionals during the course of your fitness program.

The role of the physician:

To begin your program, we require a letter from your primary treatment source (e.g. orthopedic surgeon, physical therapist, chiropractor or physiatrist) indicating that you are ready to begin an exercise program.  This letter should detail the nature of your injury or condition, include information about treatments and/or medications received, and provide any recommendations for exercise programming.

Trainer Qualifications:

Post Rehab/Medical Exercise is a unique and growing field.  Due to the newness of the disciplines involved, qualified experts are hard to find.  South Shore Fitness provides this program through fully certified personal trainers who specialize in the Post Rehab/Medical Exercise field.
